Penguin was a visually striking and deeply human contemporary dance work exploring connection, resilience, compassion, and the ways we move through life alongside one another.
Inspired by the quiet poetry of social mimicry, the work reflected on how people adapt, support, and shape one another through moments of change, uncertainty, love, and loss.
Through powerful physicality and tender intimacy, Penguin revealed the subtle ways we seek belonging, learning to move together even while carrying vastly different inner worlds.
At its heart, Penguin was about survival in community, the instinct to gather close, to protect, to imitate, and ultimately to heal. As memories resurface and relationships evolve, the performers navigated a world where the body became both witness and storyteller.
About Choreographer
Scott Ewen
Scott Ewen is an accomplished Australian contemporary dancer, choreographer, movement director, and educator. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (Dance) with the Hawaiian Award for Most Outstanding Graduate from WAAPA in 2010.
Scott's career spans performances with prestigious companies such as Australian Dance Theatre, Expressions Dance Company, ilDance (Sweden), Buzz Dance Theatre, Tasdance, and Brooke Leeder & Dancers.
He has performed and toured works by renowned choreographers including Garry Stewart, Daniel Jaber, Stephanie Lake, Natalie Weir, Gabrielle Nankivell, Jake McLarnon, Israel Aloni, Odelya Kuperberg, Shaun Parker, Brooke Leeder, Jin-Wen Yu, and Leda Muhana, showcasing his versatility and artistic depth.
As a choreographer, Scott has created contemporary dance works for a diverse array of platforms including companies, festivals, universities, training institutions, and schools within Australia and overseas.
His works have been celebrated and performed extensively across Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Norway, France, Netherlands, Austria, and the United States, highlighting his ability to resonate with audiences worldwide through innovative movement and entertaining contemporary dance.

HotHouse has a long tradition of assisting working artists to create new productions. Guest artists are afforded the time, space and support required to realise and evolve ambitious creative visions.
As a community dance ensemble for older dancers, Momentum is extremely grateful for the opportunity to perform in the beautiful Upper Theatre at All Saints' College.
As part of the initiative, Scott Ewen's extensive dance experience was being shared with the students at All Saints' College through a series of technique classes and choreographic exchanges. Scott and Momentum were given access to the Upper Theatre performance space for the duration of the mid-year school holidays.
Three weeks in a theatre space is a rare opportunity for any ensemble. It enabled us to fully showcase the new work PENGUIN.
